Sometimes the text quality in Chrome suddenly appears very pixelated. The solution to this is fairly simple, but can be frustrating to fix if you don’t know where to look.

First, here’s an example of the janky text:

This is the same text after enabling “LCD text antialiasing”:

Here’s what you need to do to fix this problem:

  • In Chrome, go to chrome://flags
  • In the search box, search for “lcd”
  • Change “LCD text antialiasing” from “Default” to “Enabled”
  • When prompted, relaunch Chrome

On occasion, I’ve had the issue return even after enabling this setting. Changing the setting back to “Default” usually fixes it again. If Chrome is already set to “Enabled”, try changing to to “Disabled” and then back. Leave a comment and let me know whether it works for you.
